Hist by Laura and Bella

Hist, by C.J Dennis is a poem about two children travelling through ‘Possum Park’. C.J Dennis wrote it for children and had it published in 1921.

The poem is mainly about children strolling through a Possum Park, getting scared by the animals, while trying to find their way back home. The animals in the park include a mopoke, a cat and a frog. The poem speaks of the children taking a stroll and then realising that they are lost and too far from home. They are unprepared, scared, cold and then find it beginning to mist. The poem ends with them coming home to find supper all laid out.

We immensely enjoyed this poem because of the language and detail used to help us picture it in our heads. It was exciting to read and we consider it a great and thrilling poem. We recommend it to people of all ages. We would love to learn more about C.J Dennis and his exciting and thrilling poems!!
