Down and Up by Max Fatchen is a unique poem in the way it is set and I think that is what the author was going for.
The poem is about reading words that go down and up on the page so that the poem demonstrates down and up by the look of it.
This is a fantastic poem and can be read by children in Kinder and Year 1 but also be a laugh for anyone including adults.

Hist by Gabriella C and Lauren
C.J.Dennis wrote the poem ‘Hist’ in 1921.
This poem is about two children who are lost in the Possum Park, in the dark night and are terrified by the sounds they hear. They then see a light shining through the trees, then they realise that the light is coming from their house.
This poem is wonderful and the rhyming words are clever. We would recommend it to stage 2 students.
We particularly enjoyed the rhyming words.

I think life was difficult in the country for the woman because
they were always left alone to do all the work just like a normal
woman but there was heaps more to be done. If you had a farm
you would have to drive many kilometres to buy food. There are
times when the crops didn’t grow and they were forced to go out

Hist is a creative poem about a group of Kids who wonder off in the dark and discover more than they could imagine. The group seem scared as they travel through the night and are delighted when they reach home.

It pulled me in 100% by its clever rhymes and continuous story. It has some detailed information. It describes the wind, coldness and air.
The artistic poetry used in this amazing piece of writing is in my opinion recommended for children or adults in or over stage three as it has moderately hard words and many children below that age would not understand the poem.
